Both pieces depict the same subject, sculling through different times of day, exploring the solitude and peace that experienced whilst isolated on the river. Looking at the reflections and patterns of the water has a calming and hypnotic effect, and i wanted to explore textures and shapes created by the boat and the environment. The repeating pattern of horizontal strokes gives a sense of calm but also subtle movement
Together, they form a strong visual contrast between stillness and movement and evening versus morning light.
